Please note that the Fall Production Acting Class is full but there is room in the Fall Production Tech Class. Also, Spring Production Acting and Tech will begin on November 17th.

Crystal Sea Drama Company 2011/2012 Classes

 Dates: Unless otherwise noted, Production Classes meet as follows: Fall- September 1, 2011 - November 13, 2011; Spring- November 17, 2011 - May 31, 2012.  All other classes meet for two semesters from September 1-December 15, 2011 and January 5-April 26, 2012. Spring break will be the week of March 12-16.

 

Yearly Registration Fee (September-August): $50 before July 31, $60 after that date. Fee is not prorated if you register late. Fee is non-refundable.

Theatre Classes - Thursdays

 

Elementary Drama

K-4th      

9-10 a.m.

Instructor: Irene Miller

Tuition: $40/month

Supply Fee: $15/semester

Learn the basics of theatre while exploring theatre history. Students will discover the wonders of French Restoration theatre, Greek theatre, Improvisation, Japanese theatre, Medieval theatre and Melodrama. Parents are invited to the final class of the semester to see a review of what the students have done.

 

Middle School Drama

5th-8th

10-11:30 a.m.

Instructor: Irene Miller

Tuition: $40/month

Supply Fee: $15/semester

Students will do two in-depth script notebooks, one for an English Restoration play and one for a 19th century play. They will also prepare a scene from the plays that they will perform during the final class of each semester for their parents. In addition, we will explore careers in theatre and in theatre-related fields.

 

“Face Off” Intensive Makeup Class

7th-Adult                       

10 a.m.-Noon

Instructor: Marla Ripps

Tuition: $40/month (need a minimum of 4 for class to make)

Supply Fee: Fall supply fee- $50/student; Spring supply fee: TBD

We will take the next step in stage and film makeup with this class.  We will review basic makeup techniques before taking off with more advanced techniques.  Students will learn how to use an airbrush, first with paint, then with makeup. They will then be given different scenarios for makeup design.  They will be assigned a different partner for each scenario. The second semester  will tentatively have each student make a life cast of their face.  From this they will form a variety of clay molds, with which they will make masks. This class is based on the TV reality show “Face-Off“, recently broadcast on the SyFy channel.

 

 

High School Drama

9th-12th (7th & 8th may take this class if they are also taking the “Face Off” Makeup class)

Scenic Painting Techniques                   

7th – College                 

1– 2:30 p.m.

Instructor: Linda Cowan

Tuition: $45/month

We will work with perspective techniques used in large scale pieces analog with faux painting and atmospheric perspective.  Homework will involve sketchbook assignments. 

 

Fall and Spring Production Class – Acting

Middle and High School students. Elementary students dependent on play being produced.

2:30-5:30 p.m.

Instructor: Fall – Sharon Manacapilli; Spring – Irene Miller

Tuition: Tuition:  $50/month; If registered in another class taught by Mrs. Ripps or Mrs. Miller, tuition is $25/month

Class Runs Sept - May

Supply Fee- $60

Fall production will be a murder mystery, directed by Sharon Manacapilli. Spring production will be a musical, directed by Irene Miller. Play titles and performance dates, tba. This class will require extra rehearsal days outside of scheduled class time. Rehearsal schedule tba. Students must be available for all rehearsals unless other arrangements have been made.

 

Technical Theatre Production Class

7th & up            

2:30 - 5:30 p.m.

Instructor: Marla Ripps; Advisor: Victor Lamphier

Tuition:  $50/month; If registered in another class taught by Mrs. Ripps or Mrs. Miller, tuition is $25/month

Class Runs Sept - May

Supply Fee- $60

All aspects of Technical Theatre Production will be explored and worked on as we prepare the sets, props, lights, sound, and makeup for the fall and spring productions. For the first 2 months in fall we will focus on Set Design for our Spring show.   Students must be able to paint and operate a hand drill.  Other tools will be taught as needed and approved by the student's parents and the Technical Advisor.  This class will require extra rehearsal days outside of scheduled class time. Rehearsal schedule tba. Students must be available for all rehearsals unless other arrangements have been made.

 

Enrichment Classes - Thursdays

 

Elementary Art
K-6th                 

11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

We will use a variety of materials, including pencil, acrylics, clay, and ink to study technique, artists, and art history.


Sign Language

Middle and High School                         

12:30-1:30 p.m.

Instructor: Robin Cook

Tuition: $40/month

Supply Fee: $20

This class will be a comprehensive intro class to American Sign Language. An online link will be provided to reinforce things taught in class. Students will need to bring a loose-leaf notebook to class. A field trip and/or special guest is still being considered.

Touring Troupe Rehearsal

7-9 pm

Instructor: Sharon Manacapilli

Supply Fee: TBA

Students will rehearse plays and skits to be toured to schools, nursing homes, day cares, etc. More information coming soon!

 

Adult Acting Class

College age and up                  

7-9 p.m., approximately twice a month. Email instructor for exact schedule.
