Camp Shakespeare!
Class Dates:
June 11-22, Mondays-Fridays, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. 

Performances: 
June 23, 7:30 p.m.
June 24, 3 p.m.

Cost:
Tuition: $200/person on or before May 20, 2012

Tuition: $250/person  ($20 sibling discount for 2nd or more sibling) after May 20, 2012

Other Information: Close-toed shoes are required – no sandals or flip-flops. Wear clothes that you can move easily in. Lunch not provided. Microwave and refrigerator available.

Description: Prepare and perform Shakespeare!, a one-act play that tells about William Shakespeare’s life, his works, and his importance today. It also includes scenes from a number of his plays. Students will rehearse and prep the costumes, sets, props, lights, sound, etc., and do two performances at the end of the session. This camp will be a good preparation for those interested in performing in CSDC’s spring, 2013 production, A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

 

Theatrical Thursdays
Join us on eight Thursdays throughout the summer to explore all things theatrical! We will go on field trips, play games, rehearse and perform mini-shows in one day, and generally have a great time while learning about theatre. Workshops are open to all ages, unless otherwise noted. Close-toed shoes are required at all workshops – no sandals or flip-flops. Wear clothes that you can move easily in. Please note that times vary according to the workshops. Lunch not provided. Microwave and refrigerator available.

June 7, Project Runway
Time: 9 a.m.-7:30 p.m., performance 6 p.m.
Location: CSDC Fine Arts Studio
Instructor: Marla Ripps
Supplies Required: Roll of duct tape (colored or normal); found item from home - paper towel tube, fabric, trash bags, etc. The item must be something you do not want to get back and something found at your house - not bought.
Description: This was such a popular workshop last summer that it’s back by popular demand this summer! Students will be put in groups and given an historical era or a play title. Using found items, such as thrift store clothing, newspaper, duct tape, etc., the groups will make a costume appropriate to the era or play. Creations will be unveiled during the evening's free performance for family and friends. Appropriate for older elementary, middle and high school students.

 

June 28, Come do Commedia!
Time: 9 a.m.-7:30 p.m., performance 6 p.m.
Location: CSDC Fine Arts Studio
Instructors: Irene Miller, Marla Ripps, Kim McIlvain
Supply Fee: $10
Supplies Required: Pencil
Description: Learn what Commedia del’Arte is all about. Students will make Commedia masks, be taught the history of the art form, and will rehearse Commedia scenarios that will be performed for family and friends at 6 p.m.

 

July 5, Drama with a Message
Time: 9 a.m.-7:30 p.m., performance 6 p.m.
Location: CSDC Fine Arts Studio
Instructors: Irene Miller, Andrea Miller
Supplies Required: Pencil
Description: Students will rehearse Christian skits and perform in the evening. This was also a favorite workshop from last year. This year’s group skit will be “The Washtub”. Students will also participate in one or more short scenes.

 

June 12, Mrs. Miller’s Birthday Bash and Field Trip – Theater tour and San Pedro Park Pool
Time: 10 a.m.-7:30 p.m.
Location: CSDC Fine Arts Studio, San Antonio College and San Pedro Park Pool
Instructors: Irene Miller
Supplies required: If swimming, modest swimsuit, towel, sunscreen; Field trip release form must be filled out to participate in the afternoon activities
Must reserve spot by July 1
Description: Come celebrate Mrs. Miller’s birthday! Meet at CSDC Fine Arts Studio at 10 a.m. for a drama birthday party. After lunch we will drive the students to a theater where we will take a tour. Theater to be visited will be announced before July 1. Afterwards we will go to the San Pedro Park pool and swim. The swimming pool is shady for those sitting and watching, but it is sunny in the pool itself. Don’t forget sunscreen. You may also want to bring lawn chairs and food to munch on at the pool. The pool is free. Wear your swimsuit under your clothes, or change into your suit at the pool.
We will return to CSDC by 7:30 p.m.

 

July 19 – Tech 101
Time: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Location: CSDC Fine Arts Studio
Instructors: Marla Ripps, Kim McIlvain

Supplies required:
Description: Students will have a brief introduction to technical theatre areas. They will then participate in hands-on projects relating to lights, sound, and set design. This workshop is not just for techies! Actors will enjoy these projects, as well, and will gain a new appreciation for the behind the scenes process.
Appropriate for middle school and high school students.

 

July 26 – Mad About Musicals!
Time: 9 a.m.-7:30 p.m., performance 6 p.m.
Location: CSDC Fine Arts Studio
Instructors: Irene Miller, Candi Seager, Andrea Miller

Supplies Required: Dancing shoes (jazz, ballet, character) or tennis shoes, pencil
Description: Oklahoma! was a landmark American Musical. We will watch clips from the play, learn why it was important to the development of the art form, and rehearse scenes from it to perform in the evening. “Oh, what a beautiful day!”

 

August 2 – Playwriting
Time: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Location: CSDC Fine Arts Studio

Supplies Required:
Description: Learn basic playwriting principles through games and exercises. Write scenes that will be performed at the next Theatrical Thursday.

 

August 9 – Lions and Tigers and Bears! Oh, my!
Time: 9 a.m.-7:30 p.m., 6 p.m. performance
Location: CSDC Fine Arts Studio

Supplies Required: Pencil, makeup wipes, moisturizer, button up shirt to protect clothes during makeup application, headband to keep hair out of face during makeup application
Description: Students will rehearse scenes that were written during the previous Theatrical Thursday and will learn animal makeup techniques. They will wear the makeup when they perform the scenes in the evening for family and friends.
