CSDC alumna, Julianna Martin, directs Oscar Wilde’s classic comedy of manners. Two young men and two young women try to navigate their families’ Victorian-era expectations of courtship, all the while engaging in a battle of wits. When the young men’s names and egos collide, the pair get caught up in romantic snafus and mistaken identities, while the young women slide from bosom friends to sworn enemies and back again. Oscar Wilde called his play a “trivial comedy for serious people.” It reveals the absurd lengths people will go to for love and acceptance and is considered a comedic classic. Suitable for all ages.

Shakespeare returns to CSDC with the production of one of the greatest and least known of his history plays, Richard II. Convinced of his divine right to rule, King Richard acts recklessly and provides the canny Henry Bolingbroke an opening to seize the crown. Filled with magnificent verse and Shakespeare’s characteristic wisdom and insight, Richard II is a deeply moving and insightful portrait of how the forces of history collide and combust to shape a nation.
