Summer Happenings

What’s Coming Up at CSDC -

We have some awesome summer camps, workshops, and events coming up! Full details for each one may be found on the website, http://www.crystalseadrama.org/summer-registration-page

The first thing that’s happening is auditions for our summer production, Drama and Dessert: New Play Festival. We need actors for the world premiere of our three new student-written one acts, “Diamonds and Daughters,” “Fawkes,” and “A Truly Theatrical Tragedy.” If you’re interested in auditioning, please email irene@crystalseadrama.org to sign up and to receive an audition form. The audition is free; there is a cost to be in the production.

Are you looking for a pottery class this summer? Join us for our Pottery Hand Building Workshop, this June and this August! Ages 13 and up - adults are welcome to take the workshop, also! Local artist, Gloria O’Brien, is the teacher.

The last two weeks of June are the rehearsals for our New Play Festival! Performances are June 29-30. This show is definitely worth being in, so be sure to come to auditions and to sign up for this camp!!

Open to ages 5-7, and 8-11, our Elementary Fine Arts half-day camps in early July will give students a wide range of fine arts experiences. At the end of the session, your students will have had lots of fun and will have gained an appreciation for the arts!

Next up is our Play a Day Shakespeare Camp. If you are interested in learning more about Shakespeare, this is a great way to do so. We will study Romeo and Juliet, Twelfth Night, and Richard III, through projects, drama games, and scene work. At the end of the camp, students will demonstrate what they’ve learned for their families.

A field trip to San Antonio College Theatre Department and to The Public Theatre, followed by swimming at the San Pedro Springs Park Pool on July 12 is our next event. The field trip is free! Can’t get better than that!

If you’re looking for a creative workshop, our Project Costume will fit the bill! Using recyclable materials, students will create a costume and put on a fashion show with their creations for their families.

You’ll want to be at the “Not Your Ordinary Face” Makeup Camp in July. Learn how to put on a number of different theatrical makeup styles, and get a sneak peek at the makeup we’ll be using in the fall for our production of Animal Farm.

Musical Theatre Dance Workshop comes next! Have a blast in late July learning warm-ups, dance techniques, and choreography, and then perform at our talent show in early August!

The Improv Workshop at the end of July will be a time to learn improvisation in a relaxed environment. Use the techniques you’ve learned at the Imps Troupe Auditions the evening after the workshop.

Hopefully, a number of folks will sign up to be in our Shine Your Light in the Spotlight Talent Show on August 4. Sing, dance, recite, perform…whatever your gift is, we want to see it SHINE! Those performing should register by July 30 by emailing irene@crystalseadrama.org.

If you love the technical side of theater, we’ve got you covered! Each student will participate in different technical theatre areas, such as sets, props, and lights, as we prepare for our year's productions.

This is just a brief overview of what is happening this summer. Join us for one or more of these and grow your talent and skills, while making friendships for life! Remember to check out the complete details on our summer registration page.
