Meet Kelly Hanson!

Kelly Hanson teaches our Elementary classes (Art and Theatre) as well as Scenic Design and one of our newest offerings: Speech!

Tell us about your family and your "day job".

I live with my husband Chris and three daughters, Rhapsody (15), Violet (13), and Ember (7). Chris and I have been married for 17 years and my sweet mother-in-law, Noi, lives with us. I'm very close to my family: my mom lives one street over and my sister and her family live just 10 minutes down the road. (My dad just passed this last May.)

I've taught kindergarten and art in a hybrid model school for the last 12 years. I have also run a couple of visual arts businesses over the last 20 years, and I'm an active real estate professional.

Wow, you’re busy! How did you first get involved in theatre?

I took a couple of drama classes in school, but I really became involved when I auditioned for ComedySportz at the prompting of a friend over 22 years ago! I ended up managing the San Antonio troupe for almost 10 years until having babies and raising small children started to take up all of my time. Ha!

Is there something you did on stage in the past that you wish we ALL could have seen you do?

Hmmm, I've never taken a part in a play before, but my interpretive dances during the improv game "Poets Corner" were pretty epic.

LOL! Sorry we missed those! What brought you to CSDC?

I first heard about CSDC at a local homeschooling convention. I had always wanted my daughters to try theatre as I believe it builds excellent life skills. Finally, we were able to attend a summer camp, and they were hooked! As a homeschooling mom with some artsy tendencies, I wanted to become more involved in the theatre.

What are you most excited about for the coming CSDC season?

I am really excited about offering a speech class! I am hoping to make it fun and integrate improv skills.
